Mutazioni

Mutazioni is a continuation and evolution of the research initiated with Take Care and Take Care 2.0, exploring the intersection of transformation, material memory, and sustainability in ceramics. At the heart of this collection lies white stoneware clay, a versatile medium that serves as both the foundation for smooth, controlled surfaces and the host for dynamic, unpredictable mutations.

These “mutated” areas emerge through the integration of low-fired ceramic fragments, which, when subjected to high kiln temperatures, melt and fuse into the form, creating striking contrasts in texture and finish. Glossy, flowing drips meet raw, structured clay, resulting in a tactile interplay between fluidity and solidity, intention and chance.

The inserts in these pieces originate from discarded red and white fired ceramic waste—hand-crushed, sieved, and reintegrated into the body of the work. This process not only challenges conventional ideas of waste but also honors the cyclical nature of materials, giving new purpose to what would otherwise be discarded. Mutazioni embraces imperfection as a source of beauty, celebrating the unpredictable nature of ceramic alchemy and the continuous evolution of form.
